Meet Mel & Walid: The Team Behind Shoe Fit’s Decade at Waverley Gardens
We sat down with Mel and Walid, the friendly faces behind Shoe Fit at Waverley Gardens, to learn more about their journey, their passion for footwear, and what makes their store a local favourite.
How long have you been at Waverley Gardens, and what do you enjoy most about it?
We've been here for around 10 to 12 years. What we love most is the people—the customers and the community. There’s a real sense of connection here, and that’s what keeps us going.
Do you have regular customers you know by name?
Absolutely. We have lots of regulars who come in daily. Over time, you get to know them personally, and those little chats and familiar faces make the job even more rewarding.
What’s your favourite time of year at the centre?
Christmas, without a doubt. The festive spirit brings great energy—it's busy, vibrant, and full of happy people. The atmosphere is just fantastic.
What are your interests outside of work?
We’re all about family. We spend a lot of time together at the beach, going to the movies, shopping, and taking day trips. We love travelling and making the most of our time off. It’s all about quality time and staying grounded.
What makes your products stand out?
We offer a wide range of brands and styles, focusing on comfort, quality, and support. Whether it’s men’s, women’s, or kids’ footwear, we’ve got something for everyone. Our back-to-school range is popular, and we stock favourites like Archie’s. We pride ourselves on having a diverse selection that caters to all needs.
What inspired you to open Shoe Fit?
We wanted to try something different—create a one-stop shop that’s convenient for the whole family. Our goal was to offer practical solutions and make shopping easy. Customer service is our top priority, and we’re proud to support small business and build lasting relationships with our customers.
How would you describe the community at Waverley Gardens?
It’s like one big family. We’ve built strong connections not just with customers, but with other store owners too. There’s a real sense of support and camaraderie here
